FOR CENTRES
Level 4 Qualifications — The BWYQ has four Level 4 qualifications on the Ofqual register in teaching yoga, including two specialist qualifications in teaching yoga to older adults with long term conditions :
- BWYQ Level 4 Certificate in Teaching Yoga which consists of 5 units and is usually completed in 12-18 months.
- BWYQ Level 4 Diploma in Teaching Yoga which consists of 7 units and is usually completed in 18 months to three years.
- BWYQ Level 4 Certificate in Teaching Gentle Years Yoga which consists of 2 units and is usually completed in 12 to 18 months.
- BWYQ Level 4 Award in Understanding the Principles of Adapting Yoga for Older Adults which consists of just the theory/knowledge unit from above. This unit on its own can attain the L4 Award. It is usually completed within 3 to 6 months. This theory unit has e-learning resources for learners to gain the knowledge for formative assessment, followed by learners’ completion of written worksheets for summative assessment.
New Level 3 Qualifications meet the recent occupational standards set by employers of yoga teachers. BWYQ’s Level 3 qualifications are now on Ofqual’s Regulated Qualifications Framework and will be ready to launch to the general public by our recognised centres in mid-2025. These four occupational teaching qualifications have also been approved by DfE for Adult Skills Fund places for eligible learners:
- BWYQ Level 3 Technical Specialist in Teaching Yoga – Level 3 Legal Entitlement and Advance Learner Loans
- BWYQ Level 3 Technical Specialist in Teaching Antenatal Yoga – Level 3 Legal Entitlement
- BWYQ Level 3 Technical Specialist in Teaching Postnatal Yoga for Mums & Babies – Level 3 Legal Entitlement
- BWYQ Level 3 Technal Specialist in Adapting Mindbody Exercises for Active Older Adults – Level 3 Legal Entitlement
These qualifications will be available for first delivery starting in August 2025. All of the courses have Guided Learning Hours with a tutor and summative assessment by a qualified assessor. We will be setting up consultations and training for our recognised centres’ delivery of these qualifications quite soon. If you are currently not recognised by BWYQ, please see how to get recognised here.
Educational resources such as e-learning – see sample below – will be developed in time to aid in the learners’ understanding of the theory units for formative assessment, available through logging in to our e-learning platform. Although the courses can be offered to anyone aged 19 and over, if Centres want to recruit learners who need funding from the ESFA/Adult Skills Budget, there are procurement procedures that training providers will have to go through with your local combined authority or with the ESFA.
Please contact office@bwyq.org.uk if you would like us to send you more information on how you can increase your chances to be approved as a training provider for public funded places.
